Mission and functioning

11.11.11 Coalition of the Flemish North-South Movement

11.11.11 - Koepel van de Vlaamse Noord-Zuidbeweging vzw (Coalition of the Flemish North-South Movement)(formerly known as NCOS, Nationaal Centrum voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking) consists of 375 municipal committees and some sixty affiliated organizations.
The organization is mostly known for its annual 11.11.11- action, led by the local 11.11.11- committees. They mobilise more than 20 000 volunteers every year. This campaign is the biggest Flemish public action for the Third World.

The essence of the functioning of 11.11.11, here in the North as well as, through the support of the partners in the South, is the concentration of power to obtain more political impact. By supporting valuable initiatives financially and by stimulating mutual consultation, 11.11.11 makes sure that the organizations harmonise their activities. That way they will be more effective. The Flemish development organizations collaborate to have more influence on politicians in favour of the people in the South. 11.11.11 as a cooperation is the place for development organizations (like organizations for adults, youngsters, labor unions, anti-globalization organizations) to discuss and plan actions examples from the past: debt relief for development countries, Tobin tax and Palestine.
