Social mission

The Foundation for Missing and Sexually Exploited children is a charitable foundation that operates under the name Child Focus. Seven days a week, 24 hours a day, Child Focus does all it can to find missing children and fight sexual exploitation of minors both online and offline.

What does Child Focus do?

  • Free hotline: a single free hotline number – 116000 – that can be memorized to report a disappearance or a case of sexual exploitation. In 2015, there were more than 21,600 calls to the hotline. To manage the cases of disappearance or sexual exploitation online or offline, Child Focus relies on a team of nine specialized counsellors.
  • website is an online point of contact that enables members of the public to report images of sexual abuse of minors discovered on the internet. In 2015, Child Focus received 1,358 reports.
  • Surf Safe:a 3-day summer campaign which encourages young people to speak to someone they trust or to the Child Focus helpline (on 116000) if they encounter problems on the internet. To help children and young people surf the internet in complete safety, Child Focus has developed a range of prevention tools: posters, videos, websites, games and activities, as well as training and information evenings.
  • Combating procuring of adolescents:people traffickers (known as “loverboys") seduce female adolescents in order to subsequently exploit them as prostitutes. In 2015, Child Focus conducted a pioneering study of this issue and ascertained that it is a growing phenomenon. Child Focus is campaigning for urgent solutions to the problem.
  • Child Focus Academy:Child Focus aims to educate, raise awareness and mobilise all target groups in a proactive and effective way. Children, their interests, well-being, protection, education, emancipation and rights are at the centre of the foundation’s prevention and training policy. Since its inception, Child Focus has initiated and managed training programmes for children and adolescents, but also for parents, teachers, the police, magistrates and professionals in the child and youth affairs sector.
  • Safer Internet Day:every year, Child Focus coordinates the Safer Internet Day campaign as part of International Safer Internet Day, which will be held for the 13thtime on 7thFebruary 2017.
  • International Missing Children’s Day(25thMay): this day is dedicated to the memory of all missing children. Numerous activities are organized to raise awareness of the subject amongst families, young people and children.
